Collectorate

The Collector plays a vital role in the District Administration. The Collector is the administrative head of the District. He acts as the District Magistrate to maintain law and order in his jurisdiction. He mainly deals with important areas like Planning and Development, Law and Order, Notified Areas/Other Areas, General Elections, Arms Licensing etc.

Additional Collectors who belong to IAS Cadre and SAS Cadre run the revenue administration in the district under various Acts. They are also designated as Additional District Magistrates. They mainly perform the functions of Revenue and various departments assigned by the Collector.

Joint Collector/Deputy Collector who belong to SAS Cadre look after various development activities related to different departments. The major departments looked after by the Joint Collector are District Medical and Health Department, Social Welfare Department, BC Welfare, BC Corporation, Disabled Welfare, Housing and other departments. From time to time the above branches are assigned to various OICs by the Collector through division of work. Revenue functions include maintenance of land records, conduct of revenue cases, demarcation and mutation, settlement operations and acting as custodian of public land. Sub-divisional Magistrates are designated as Assistant Collectors and Revenue Assistants and are mainly responsible for day to day revenue work. Tehsildar supervises revenue staff Girdawar, Kanungo and Patwari who handle field revenue activities and mutations work. He is also empowered to issue various types of statutory certificates including SC/ST and OBC, Dominican, Nationality, Registration of Property Documents etc.

Tehsildar is an important post in the state government. He has wide range of duties and vast powers to maintain all land and revenue records of the Tehsil. Land revenue is collected by his staff i.e RI (Revenue Inspector) and Patwari. All land acquisition and property acquisition cases are prepared by his office. He plays a leading role in launching immediate relief operations and handling the situation when any natural calamity or disasters cause damage. The total damage assessment of crops due to any reason and fixing and its compensation is determined by the Tehsildar. The damage assessment of crops due to all weather, rain, temperature etc. is done by the Tehsildar office itself. He is in charge of all government lands. The Tehsildar has been given the powers of an executive magistrate to maintain public peace.
